A historical legacy

This little village, which is part of the municipality of Rincón de la Victoria, has a rich historical patrimony which goes back centuries. Historians agree on pointing that the first documented settlement of all the area was stablished here. The emblematic coastal tower which gives the town its name has major presence on its environment. It was built in the 14th century as part of the defensive coastal system against pirate raids.

This strategic promontory allowed locals to alert through smoke and fires of potential attacks. This tower still holds its original cladding and a singular interior chimney and it takes us to an age of pirates and sentries, becoming a must visit for those passionate about history.

What to see in Torre de Benagalbón

What truly distinguishes Torre de Benagalbón is its commitment to the preservation of the natural environment. The Ecological Walk is one of the jewels in the crown of this lovely location in the Málaga area. This section, which is part of the ‘Gran Senda’ route on its first stage and of Málaga’s Coastal Path, covers almost one kilometre of coastline in a space of an extraordinary ecological and scenic value.

For those passionate about golf, Añoreta Golf is an unavoidable stop. This course has 18 holes (par 72), it was designed by the prestigious player José María Cañizares and it became the first one of all of Axarquía. Its layout, with many green areas and awesome views to the sea, offer a path as challenging as enjoyable, which is complemented with the best facilities which include from padel courts to a restaurant.

One the cultural treasures of the area you can not miss is Villa Antiope, one of the best preserved roman villas of all of Andalusia. This archaeological finding, which dates from the 3rd century A.D., allow the visitor to dive on the daily life in ancient Rome. This villa was built in honour of Antiope, a princess which, according to mithology, was courted by Zeus who transformed into a satyr, offer a complete sensorial experience.

Fairs and Festivals

Torre de Benagalbón becomes even more alive during its most emblematic festivities. Saint John’s night, when campfires illuminate the beach and sound of the waves mix with music and laughter, becomes a moment of rituals and traditions which attract both locals and visitors.

Summer nights are full of magic during its Feria or St. Michael’s street party, with the whispers of the Mediterranean as the soundtrack. A unique atmosphere is created during these festivities which will remain in your memory long after returning home.
