Benagalbón will host on September 20th, the 30th edition of the Traditional Verdiales Contest featuring the performances from Montes style groups.

A grand total of twelve groups will gather on September 20th in Benagalbón. Ten of them will have the Montes style in their performances: Primera de los Montes, Panda de Montes del Guadalmedina, Panda de Moclinejo, Panda de Jotrón y Lomillas, Panda Santa Catalina, Panda Primera del Puerto de la Torre, Panda La Cepa, Panda Santón Pitar, Panda Bataná and Panda Primera de Benagalbón. There will also be two guest groups: Arroyo Conca (Comares style) and Raíces de Almogía (Almogía style).

New for this year, there will be a Prize Reward for Copla de Pique, as well as the return of traditional games which will be integrated in the different group performances during this special night.

The Traditional Verdiales Music contest will begin at 18:00 horas, when groups will enter with their traditional music up to Church's square, where the traditional 'groups clash' will take place. This event consist of something similar to a battle between two groups, which would speed up the tempo up until one of them is left behind. Prize-awarding ceremonies will take place at late night in Plaza de las Flores and the festivity will continue up until dawn.

Group components will form a group along with the major, flag bearer, violinist, two or three guitarists, two cymbalists and a tambourine, which would be later added to the dance. Thus, the groups, dressed with traditional hats with flowers and ribbons, will perform in the town's streets and squares, with locals decorating their homes with traditional style ornamentation consisting of flower pots, palm trees and wattles.
