Bezmiliana Fortified House, a historical complex
King Charles the 3rd of Spain named ‘the Politician’ (‘el Político’) ordered the construction in this building. That is the reason why we could see his coat of arms on top of the main entrance to the building. Back then, raids and piracy were extremely common, so Bezmiliana Fortified House appeared as a defensive building for the area. In fact, it is a similar construction to the watchtowers that the town used to have. Later, Bezmiliana Fortified House would serve as the barracks of the Spanish Civil Guard (Guardia Civil), which would fulfill this defensive construction purpose. The main reason for its construction mostly explains why there is little to no decoration both inside and outside the building. The house is a construction that has been changing through time due to their different needs, but it still holds its charm after the renovation work that the town hall ordered to recover its original state. What’s more, the building includes some magnificent exteriors to visit, both alone or with family and friends. Their gardens, its fountain and the statue of the Rape of Europa offer different options with which you may take photos in front of this fortress.
After the renovation work carried out by Mendiola Arquitectura in 1992, one of the rooms started seeing use as an exhibition hall, in order to continue to improve the cultural offer of Rincón de la Victoria. Several concerts are also planned here throughout the year.
The Bezmiliana Fortified House is one of the most emblematic locations in Rincón de la Victoria for all visitors that year after year come to know our town. It is a great plan at any moment due to its gardens, exhibition halls and its historical importance.
